He revealed that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about the prospects of participating.

"It's clear that the window is narrowing and there are permutations involved, not only his injury, but further aspects," the selector added.

"It's positive. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a major part. Hopefully from the opening match. Otherwise, we'll reassess."

Previous Setbacks

He emphasized he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the contest.

Bailey noted that it was unclear if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but conceded it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the initial match.

Contingency Plans

If he's unavailable, veteran batsman Smith will assume leadership.

Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their ODI contests against India as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

He labeled it as a "minor" injury and stated that he's scheduled to appear in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to deliver overs."

"We put so much time has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the initial game as an dual-role player," the selector detailed.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the first two ODIs regardless. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, we opted to take a cautious route."
