Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
