Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The anticipation around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
